Конспект уроку „ A visit to the United Kingdom”
Мета: поповнити словниковий запас учнів; удосконалювати навички аудіювання; розвивати мовлення учнів, навички читання та письма; розширювати знання учнів про Лондон; виховувати інтерес до вивчення англійської мови та культури.
Обладнання:  карта, ілюстрації визначних місць Лондона, роздатковий матеріал.
                                            Хід уроку

2. Warming-up.
 Do you like to travel? Look at the pictures and try to say “ What country is it?”
Theme of our lesson is  “ A visit to the UK”. We are going to visit the UK. It’s a pity it will be only unreal voyage! During this trip we’ll revise vocabulary on the topic, extend your knowledge of London, try to develop communicative approach in speaking. You’ll work with a map, work in groups, do some grammar activities.
3. Revising.
  You’ll be invited to the UK on condition you know British geography, history, culture and traditions well. Do all your best to have a wonderful trip. I’ll try to help you to refresh your knowledge about the UK in order to win an invitation to the UK.
  Please, look to the map of the UK and listen to the most important facts about the geographical position of the UK.
     The official name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the UK). It is situated on the British Isles, contains about 5000 small and large isles. The main isles are Great Britain and Ireland. The UK is divided into 4 parts. They are England, the largest part; Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland. Their capitals are: London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast. London is also the capital of the UK. The population of the UK is nearly 58 million people. The territory is about 245,000 square kilometers. English is the official language. The British nation consists of the English, the Scots, the Welsh and the Irish. Great Britain is washed by the North Sea, the Irish Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean. The British Isles is separated from Europe by the English Channel. There are many rivers in Great Britain. The main river is the Thames. The longest river is the Severn. The highest mountain is Ben Nevis in Scotland. The main industrial centers are Sheffield, Birmingham and Manchester. The largest cities of the country are London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Glasgow, and Belfast.

   Take a map and write down geographical names. Your time is one minute. Let’s check up on your maps together. Change your maps. I have opened these words. Look at the blackboard, please check up on the maps. Count every correct word. Put a mark. Every correct word is one point. Change your maps again. What’s your score? Oh, I see that you know British geography well! Who has 12 points? Take a prize!
6. Speaking and listening.
   I suggest you having a kind of competition. So, we have two teams. Work in groups. One correct answer is one point.

8. Role-playing.
  Be so kind as to imagine that you are on a board of a modern airplane. Listen, please, a stewardess is speaking:
   Ladies and gentlemen! Our plane is about to land in London, the capital of the UK! Fasten seat belts, please! No smoking! Listen to the weather forecast of a meteorologist. In London the weather is fine. It is not rainy and foggy. The temperature is about +4 C.
   Our plane will arrive exactly on time. And a guide is waiting for you in the airport “Heathrow”. Thanks.
9. Speaking .  Checking on home task.
  Look! A double-decker bus is waiting for us. Please, take your seats! Listen to a driver. Our excursion starts.
Driver: Hello, ladies and gentlemen! We welcome you to London. London is one of the largest cities in the world. About seven million people live here. London is more than  two thousand years old. London’s most famous sights are Tower Bridge, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square and St. Paul’s Cathedral. You’ll see all these places and much more of London from our red double-decker.
   Who want to be a guide? Come to the blackboard and pick out a picture of one of London’s sights and tell us about it one after another. ( Учні по черзі розповідають про місця Лондона).
                                  London sightseeing tour
  We  start from Trafalgar Square. On the column in the center there is a statue of Admiral Nelson who defeated the French at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. To the left of us you can see the National Gallery. It has a fine collection of European paintings.
   Now we are coming to Piccadilly Circus. It is the meeting point of six streets.
We’ve just passed Piccadilly Circus and now we are making our way to Buckingham Palace. Look right. We are passing Hyde Park. In the park anyone can stand up and say what they want. It is a very democratic park.
   Now we are at Buckingham Palace. It is the London home of the Queen. When the flag is flying on the top she is at home. Look, they are changing the Guard. It happens every day at 11.30 a. m.
     We  have just turned left and you can see St. James’s Park. It is one of the royal parks. Here you can see pelicans and ducks. There are a lot of parks and gardens in London. In Regent’s Park there is the London Zoo. It is one of the biggest zoos in the world.
    In front of you, you can see the Houses of Parliament. It is the seat of the British government. Big Ben is one of the most famous clock in the world.
    In a moment you will see Westminster Abbey. It is a royal church. Here you can see  the tombs of many British kings and queens and other famous people and the beautiful Henry VII Chapel. Now we are crossing Tower Bridge over the river Thames. From here you can see the Tower of London. The ravens are another famous sight. The legend says that without them the Tower will fall. The Raven Master is the person who gives them food. Earlier in our tour we saw a famous royal church, Westminster Abbey.
     We are now making our way to the second famous church, St. Paul’s Cathedral. It is the greatest work of the architect Sir Christopher Wren.
   We are now going along Fleet Street to the Strand. On the right you’ll can see Covent Garden. It was a big fruit and vegetable market. It is now a tourist shopping center with cafes and restaurants. We’ll stop here  so that you can go shopping.
    Our tour has finished. I hope very much that you have enjoyed this tour of London. Thank you and good-bye.
